Knitting 201

Getting bored with scarves and blankets? Some folks are happy knitting these items forever, but some of us are up for more of a challenge! Join us to learn about increases, decreases, knitting in the round and other skills for creating some more complicated, shaped work.

This class is offered every other week, and will be student interest driven, so we might not cover all of the skills in every class. If there’s something specific you’re interested in covering please reach out to us via email, Facebook, or instagram prior to the class you’ve registered for so we can be sure to cover your skill!

Skills Needed: Cast on, knit, purl, bind off

Pre-requisite Courses: None officially (if you’re a beginning knitter you should probably do at least one Knitting 101 prior to signing up for this)

Supplies – As with all of our paid events, we offer two options, admission with supplies, and admission without supplies. If you have needles and yarn spilling out from under your eaves bring some to class and we’ll help you get started with what you already have:

  • Yarn – something easy to work with and easy to see your stitches on. This is not the time for that fuzzy soft dark purple alpaca, but a GREAT time for that squishy cream colored worsted you’ve had sitting on the shelf for longer than you’ll admit to your partner, given how much you paid for it.
  • Needles – You’ll want needles that correspond pretty closely to the yarn you’ve chosen and that have a sharp-ish point for increases and decreases.

Suggested Projects*

Please pre-select your project and reference the pattern for materials. If WK is providing your materials, your registration will reflect the yarns available for each pattern.

*You’re welcome to bring another pattern but we cannot promise familiarity or expertise with it and so may not be able to offer as much assistance.

Knitting 101

Knit? Purl? Cast On? What does it all mean?!

You might not learn the meaning of life in Knitting 101, but you’ll leave with the basics of knitting – how to get started (cast on), how to work the basic knitting stitches (knit & purl) and how to finish (bind off).

This class is perfect for those who’ve never picked up needles and yarn, those who got some supplies a few years ago but never really got going, or those who learned to knit a while back and just don’t remember what to do.

Knitting 101 is offered every other week. One session should be sufficient for most who have done some knitting in the past, for true novices you should expect to feel really comfortable with your yarn and needles after about three sessions or so.

Skills Needed: None!

Pre-requisite Courses: None!

Supplies: We can provide needles and yarn for the very beginning knitter (pick the “Class + Supplies” Option when you book the class) If you have some supplies lying around feel free to bring your own. You’ll need the following:

  • Mid weight, light colored, inexpensive yarn (think some $2 Peaches & Cream cotton from Michaels)
  • Appropriate needles. We recommend bamboo needles for beginners since they’re not so slippery, but bring what you have and we can loan you a set of needles if you need them.
